The DeBakey classification ofaortic dissection:

Type I refers todissectionsthat propagate from the ascending aorta, extend to the aortic arch, and commonly, beyond the arch distally. Type II refers todissectionsthat are confined to the ascending portion of the aorta.

CTA is theinvestigation of choice

t occurs when blood enters the medial layer of the aortic wall through a tearin theintima,and tracks along the media,forming a blood-filled channel within the wall (false lumen)
