60F with abdominal pain. USG normal. CT done.

Findings reveal an inflammatory phlegmon/ abscess seen next to sigmoid diverticuli, with spasmodic sigmoid colon

Impression

Diverticular disease with abscess/ phlegmon formation

CT is the modality of choice for the diagnosis and staging of diverticulitis.

Findings include:

Thickening of sigmoid wall

Pericolic fat stranding

Presence of diverticuli with thickened wall

Adjacent abscess/ phlegmon formation

Perforation with pneumoperitoneum

Fistulous tracts to bladder/ vagina

Pelvic collection
